The weber-to-maxwell step is the largest ratio on this page — one weber is 10⁸ maxwells — because the CGS unit was sized for the fields a nineteenth-century laboratory could produce. Real machine cores work in milliwebers, so a core carrying 2 mWb is carrying 200,000 Mx, and any figure from older magnetics literature needs this step before it can sit alongside a modern datasheet.
Flux follows directly from flux density and area, and the chain from there to voltage is short. A core of 5 cm² cross-section running at 1.5 T carries 0.75 mWb. Feed that into the transformer equation for a sinusoidal supply, E = 4.44 f N Φ, and a 200-turn winding at 50 Hz develops about 33 V. That single calculation explains why turns count, core area and frequency are never chosen independently: fix any two and the third is decided.
Because one weber is one volt-second, flux is one of the few magnetic quantities that can be measured directly rather than inferred. A fluxmeter is an integrator: it accumulates the voltage induced in a search coil over time, so its reading is literally in volt-seconds. The quantity to keep separate is flux linkage, the product of flux and turns, measured in weber-turns — it is what actually determines induced voltage in a multi-turn winding, and it is frequently reported as though it were flux itself.

Magnetic flux is the total magnetic field passing through a surface, measured in webers (Wb). One weber is one volt-second, a definition that states Faraday's law directly: flux changing at one weber per second induces one volt in a single turn.
The older CGS unit, the maxwell, is exactly 10⁻⁸ Wb and still appears in magnetics literature. The volt-second definition is also why a transformer designed for 60 Hz can overheat on 50 Hz at the same voltage — each half-cycle lasts longer, so the flux swing is larger, and the core moves closer to saturation. Flux is the quantity that connects the electrical and magnetic sides of every motor, transformer and inductor.
